Roles & Opportunities
She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition is an ensemble-driven adventure that moves between two worlds: the everyday and the fantastical. Performers don’t just step into characters. They help build the world those characters live in.
Many performers play multiple roles, shifting between contemporary scenes and heightened fantasy moments. Every cast member contributes meaningfully to the storytelling.
Core Story Roles
These characters carry the narrative and emotional arc of the play and appear consistently throughout.
Agnes Evans
The emotional center of the story. Agnes is thoughtful, grounded, and searching. Her journey is one of discovery, grief, courage, and connection. This role rewards listening, emotional honesty, and growth across the arc of the play.
Tilly Evans / Tillius the Paladin
Agnes’s younger sister and her heroic fantasy counterpart. In the real world, Tilly is complex and private. In the fantasy world, Tillius is bold, commanding, and fearless. This role offers rich contrast and requires clarity, confidence, and imagination.
Chuck Biggs (Dungeon Master / Narrator)
The guide through the fantasy world and the bridge between realities. Chuck is energetic, precise, playful, and deeply invested in storytelling. This role requires strong timing, audience awareness, and leadership within the ensemble.
Miles
Intelligent, reserved, and emotionally sincere. Miles supports Agnes’s journey and brings steadiness and heart to the story. A role rooted in presence and connection.
Fantasy Party Roles
These characters form the adventuring party and bring the fantasy world to life. They require bold physicality, clear character choices, and ensemble awareness.
Lilith Morningstar
A demon queen with confidence, wit, and emotional depth. This role blends strength, humor, and vulnerability and rewards fearless character work.
Kaliope Darkwalker / Kelly
Clever, sharp, and observant. Kaliope is a tracker and strategist in the fantasy world, with a grounded real-world counterpart. This role emphasizes intelligence, timing, and clarity.
Vera / Evil Gabbi
Expressive and emotionally layered. This role navigates friendship, conflict, and loyalty across both worlds, offering opportunities for both grounded and heightened performance.
Monsters, Villains & Ensemble Roles
The Beholder
A powerful fantasy antagonist requiring presence, vocal control, and physical storytelling.
Orcus / Ronnie
A demon overlord and his real-world counterpart. This role blends humor, menace, and contrast, often shifting tone quickly.
Steve
A smaller but memorable role that adds texture and momentum to the fantasy world.
Narrator / Evil Tina / Farrah the Faerie
These roles help guide the story, shape transitions, and deepen the fantasy environment. They reward precision, clarity, and ensemble timing.
All performers play monsters when needed.
This is a core part of the production. Movement, sound, shadow, props, and group physicality are used to create creatures, battles, and transitions together.
Beyond Acting: Building the World Together
This production is not just an acting experience. Performers will actively engage with:
Lighting: how shifts in light change mood, location, and meaning
Sound: how music and effects drive rhythm, tension, and transitions
Costumes: how character identity is shaped through clothing and silhouette
Props & weapons: how physical objects support storytelling and movement
Design & space: how the world of the play is created collaboratively
Technical elements are explored as part of rehearsal, not added at the end. Performers learn how each choice affects the whole story.
Casting at PaperMap
Casting is thoughtful, intentional, and ensemble-first.
Roles are assigned based on:
ensemble balance and chemistry
readiness and growth opportunities
the needs of the story
the overall health of the cast
Every performer has meaningful stage time and real responsibility. There are no “background-only” roles. This is a shared creative effort.
Why This Is a Standout Opportunity
This production offers:
bold, imaginative storytelling
physical movement and ensemble work
emotional range and character depth
hands-on experience with full theatrical craft
a supportive environment that encourages creative risk
You won’t just perform in She Kills Monsters.
You’ll help build it, shape it, and carry it together.
