PaperMap’s original adaptation of Little Women will place the March family, their memories, arguments, ambitions, small joys, and great losses at the center of the stage.

This will be a multigenerational community production with meaningful opportunities for adults, teens, and younger performers. It is for people who have loved these characters for years and for those meeting them for the first time.

✧ Why This Story?

Little Women understands that becoming yourself can be both an act of courage and an act of grief.

Growing up means gaining things, but it also means leaving versions of yourself and your family behind. Jo tries to hold everyone together by writing them down. In doing so, she begins to understand that memory cannot stop change, but it can help us love what has changed more fully.

We chose this story because PaperMap is drawn to families in all their messiness, to young people finding their voices, and to the quiet ways ordinary lives become extraordinary when remembered with care.

About This Production

Jo’s writing will help shape the theatrical world.

Scenes may rise from pages, memories, objects, and moments she is trying to preserve. The March home will feel active, crowded, warm, and lived in, with family life continuing around the edges of the story.

The production will not treat the sisters as fixed types. Each is ambitious in her own way. Each wants to be seen. Each has something to learn from the others.

Auditions

Auditions are currently anticipated for late February or early March 2027.

Rehearsals are expected to begin in March and will generally take place on weekday evenings.

Who Should Audition?

We welcome adults, teens, younger performers, experienced actors, first-time performers, and folks returning to the stage after time away.

This production may be especially meaningful for people who enjoy:

  • Stories about memory, ambition, and growing up

Casting Snapshot

The production will include Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy, Marmee, Laurie, Mr. Laurence, John Brooke, Aunt March, Professor Bhaer, and other figures from the March family’s world.

Doubling and ensemble storytelling may be used throughout the adaptation.
