✧ Why This Story?
Some comedies become gentler with age.
The Importance of Being Earnest remains sharp because people are still very good at pretending to be respectable while arranging the world entirely around themselves. Wilde gives us people who speak beautifully, lie casually, fall in love decisively, and treat nonsense as a matter of life and death.
We chose it because joy matters too. A season should make plenty of space for laughter, elegance, play, and the simple delight of actors passing perfect language between them.
About This Production
The production will stay close to Wilde’s language while shaping the pace and theatrical world for PaperMap.
The comedy will come from truth rather than from "performing at the audience. These characters believe every absurd thing they say, and the more seriously they take themselves, the funnier the play becomes.
The setting will feel polished, proper, and just unstable enough for everything to collapse beautifully.
